FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • We'll start with a brief conversation about the information you provided on your intake forms and your goals for the session; what muscle groups to include or avoid, what kind of pressure you are looking for, anything else you want to add since filling out your intake forms, and answer any questions you have for me. Then I will let you know how to position yourself on the table. After that, I will leave so you have time to undress and remove any jewelry. When I return, I will knock and ask if you are all set. I will make sure you are comfortable on the table (e.g., face cradle positioning, table warmer temperature, etc.), and then the massage will begin. I will check in on pressure, but speak up if anything needs to change at any time. I will let you know when the massage is over, before I step out. Take your time getting off the table and getting dressed. Please let me know you are ready by cracking the door. Lastly, we'll review how you feel the massage went.

  • Please arrive 5–10 minutes early to your appointment so we have time to review your intake forms, discuss any concerns or goals, and help you settle in comfortably. For recurring appointments, this time allows us to check in about any changes to your health, focus areas, or overall goals. Stay well-hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day. Please take any medications prescribed by your doctor as directed, but avoid recreational drugs or alcohol before your appointment. You're welcome to come as you are; clean is appreciated, but there’s no need to shower right before your appointment or shave any body hair. Your comfort is what matters most.

  • Relaxation massage is a classic full-body massage designed to help you unwind. While the main goal is calming the nervous system and reducing stress, I can give some extra attention to specific areas of tension; I use firm, gentle pressure with flowing techniques to leave you feeling balanced, refreshed, and relaxed.

Integrated massage is all bout getting into the nitty-gritty of your muscle tensions, and takes a more focused approach. I combine a variety of techniques—such as deep tissue, trigger point therapy, and stretching—to address specific concerns and areas of discomfort, which takes time and intention. These sessions are still relaxing, but the primary focus is targeted relief in 1–2 priority areas.

While both styles are tailored to you, a relaxation massage is always full-body (unless you request otherwise or there is a contraindication). Integrated massage may include full-body work during a 75 or 90 minute session, but because this kind of work takes time and precision, shorter sessions are typically focused on the areas that need the most attention.

  • Cupping is a therapy that uses suction to lift the skin and underlying tissue, creating a stretch within the connective tissue. It helps increase blood flow, reduce muscle tension, and support lymphatic drainage.

  • Instrumented Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization, or IASTM, involves scraping the skin with a smooth-edged tool to improve circulation and reduce muscle tension. It’s beneficial for releasing tight fascia, decreasing inflammation, and easing pain. The scraping tool I use incorporates heat and micro-vibrations.
